Our Confidence Builder Course is designed for both novice and experienced boaters who want to improve their skills and knowledge on the water. This comprehensive training covers a range of key areas to ensure you can navigate inland waterways with confidence and safety. The course includes practical boat handling skills, essential engineering checks and maintenance, and in-depth navigation techniques for canals and river systems. We also focus on safety awareness, recognising potential hazards, and understanding inland waterway etiquette. What The Course Offers;

Boat Handling Skills & Training

Our boat handling training focuses on the practical skills needed to operate your boat safely and efficiently. From manoeuvring in tight spaces to understanding how to manage your boat in different weather conditions, this part of the course will build your confidence on the water. You’ll learn techniques such as how to dock, reverse, and control your boat at different speeds, all while ensuring safety for you, your passengers, and other water users.

Engineering Checks & Basic Maintenance

Understanding your boat’s mechanics is essential for any boater. In this part of the course, we teach you how to perform basic engineering checks and carry out essential maintenance to keep your boat running smoothly. From checking the engine and fuel system to inspecting the hull and electrical systems, you’ll gain practical knowledge that will help prevent issues while out on the water. We also provide guidance on what to do in the event of a mechanical failure, ensuring you're prepared for any situation.



Navigation of Canal & River Infrastructure

Navigating inland waterways requires specific knowledge of canal and river infrastructure. In this section, we’ll guide you through understanding locks, bridges, and other key features of the waterways, ensuring you know how to handle them effectively. You’ll also learn about safe routes, speed limits, and areas where specific rules or regulations apply, helping you navigate with ease and avoiding common pitfalls.

General safety Advice & Danger Awareness

Safety is the top priority for all boaters. In this module, we focus on general safety practices, from understanding life-saving equipment to recognising potential dangers on the water. You’ll learn how to handle emergency situations, deal with adverse weather, and be aware of other vessels around you. By the end of this session, you’ll have the knowledge to make safe decisions and protect yourself and others while boating.

Inland Waterway Etiquette

Boating etiquette is vital for ensuring a smooth and respectful experience on the water. In this section, we teach you the etiquette of inland waterways, from right-of-way rules to proper communication with other boaters. We’ll cover how to handle passing other boats, dealing with mooring, and respecting the environment and wildlife. Learning these basic etiquette rules will ensure you’re not only safe but also a considerate boater, enhancing the experience for everyone on the water.
